Sources and courses
Upload your procedures, build a course from them, and send each revision for review.
A course in Beam is built from your own procedures. Every lesson cites the exact version of the documents it teaches, so when a document changes, Beam knows which courses to look at again.
Add a source
A source is a procedure or other material your business owns or may use: a handbook, a checklist, a short video. Open Sources and use Add a source:
- Title and File.
- Licence: owned by the business, licensed to the business, or used with written permission, with the licence evidence.
- Where it came from, so anyone can trace it.
- The responsible reviewer.
Every version is kept unchanged. When the document changes, open it and use Upload a new version. Courses that cite the earlier version are flagged for their reviewer (see Review and publish).
Create a course
Open Courses and use New course: give it a Title, an optional Summary, and the Reviewer who publishes it. You land on the course's draft.
Lessons
Use Add a lesson with a Lesson title and Lesson text, and tick the source versions it cites. Lesson text is plain text with a little structure:
- A blank line starts a new paragraph.
- Lines starting with
-make a list, and lines starting with1.,2.and so on make numbered steps. - A line starting with
#is a heading. - When a lesson opens with a one-line paragraph, Beam highlights it for the learner: put the line that matters first.
Open a lesson in the draft to edit it, Move up, or Remove lesson.
Quiz
Use Add a question: write the Question, the Choices, one per line, and the Correct choice numbers, such as 2, or 1,3 when several are correct. A question scores only when exactly the right choices are picked, so scoring is the same every time.
Assessment rules
Under Assessment rules, set the Pass mark (%) and the number of Quiz attempts allowed. For practical work, write the Practical assessment instructions and choose the Named assessor who decides the evidence. Leave the instructions empty for a course without a practical part.
Send for review
Submit for review freezes the draft as a new revision for the course's reviewer. You can keep editing the draft; the revision in review does not change. The reviewer publishes it or returns it with a note: see Review and publish.
